After 2 years of training, meetings and concrete activities, the Greenclusive project comes to an end and it leaves behind a legacy of transformative experiences, valuable lessons learned, and a vision for a more sustainable and inclusive future. Join us as we delve into the main insights and lessons learned from the Greenclusive project, celebrating the impact it has made.

  • Inclusion is integral to sustainability

Inclusion lies at the heart of sustainability, as protecting the planet requires the commitment and participation of everyone, regardless of background or circumstance. The project emphasized the importance of engaging diverse communities, including minorities and marginalized groups, in sustainability initiatives.

In Lithuania, the activities were developed with a multinational group, with Poles, Belarusians, Ukrainians, and other nationalities. Inclusion was sought by overcoming the language barrier. In Hungary, the project had a special focus on the Roma people, one of the minority populations in the country. In Italy, a summer campus was held in the most peripheral and marginalized district of the city creating a sense of belonging and accomplishment.

  • Communitarian empowerment through active participation

Practical engagement, such as transforming school spaces into green areas or participating in community clean-up activities, empowers individuals to take ownership of sustainability efforts and inspires a sense of responsibility towards the environment.

Collaboration among stakeholders, including local communities, educators, policymakers, and project participants, is essential for achieving meaningful and lasting sustainability outcomes. The project emphasized the importance of fostering partnerships and collective action.

  • Local actions can have global impact

The project exemplifies the importance of local initiatives in contributing to global sustainability efforts. During their visit to Brussels and European institutions, the participants learned how their local activities could effectively influence decisions at the European Union level, demonstrating the interconnectedness of local and global spheres.

  • Sharing knowledge amplifies impact

During the training activities, participants have learned and experienced how sharing knowledge, experiences, and best practices with broader audiences amplifies the impact of sustainability initiatives, inspiring others to take action and fostering a culture of learning and collaboration.

A social media campaign was developed to engage young people with a wider audience and spread the message of sustainability and inclusion. Formation and information went hand in hand during the Media Training and equipped the youth and the partners with skills to share their actions and learnings in an international and entertaining way. Developing a social campaign requires dedication, constancy and collaboration – posts made with cross-posting tools have been the most successful and the results can still reach greater heights.

  • Cultural and linguistic diversity as assets

Cultural and linguistic diversity is a great challenge and can create many barriers for engagement, but embracing it enriches community efforts and promotes mutual understanding and tolerance. Overcoming language barriers and fostering inclusive spaces enable diverse communities to collaborate towards common goals.

The Greenclusive project is a winning partnership of 7 organizations in 6 European countries, co-funded by the European Union.

A look at the world with the aim of spreading “good news”. This is what animates the Teens International editorial offices scattered in various parts of the world and supported by the Città Nuova publishing group. A space created by teenagers for teenagers, where they can exchange opinions and ideas; they can be trained in the production of contents for various media and can find together communication models that are guided by true values.

This was made possible through a project co-funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union and support, in addition to the Città Nuova publishing groups, from social organizations in the countries involved in the project, among them New Humanity.

10 years for peace. Tenth anniversary of the Living Peace International project

On the 5th  February 2022 a special event for Living Peace will take place: the date will mark its 10th anniversary. This is a project addressed in particular to the world of school and youth groups, and born with the aim of developing, in the different learning and living environments, the commitment to live peace and for peace through a path of active citizenship. (to find out more: http://livingpeaceinternational.org/en/the-project.html )

In these 10 years, the project has also found application in other expressions of society (parishes, artistic groups, associations, etc.) of the five continents belonging to different cultures and religions, and thanks to this it has contributed to the creation of a culture of peace that starts from personal life and extends to concrete actions in various fields: cultural, sporting, artistic, social, ecological, etc…

During the webinar we want to go through the significant stages of the project through the stories of the protagonists of the first hour and of the promoters of the culture of peace in the different continents, interspersed with some artistic contributions of the young people and partners of Living Peace.

The event will be broadcasted live on 5th February on Living Peace YouTube channel, from 2.30 pm to 4.00 pm. It will be possible to select your language (Italian, English, French, Portuguese, Spanish).

The Youth of the New Humanity International NGO joins the whole world in celebrating the International Youth Day with the theme, “Youth Engagement for Global Action” (https://www.un.org/en/observances/youth-day).

A couple of years ago, New Humanity youth launched a six-year global strategy called “Pathways for a United World” that aims to address the challenges facing our world today by placing human fraternity and reciprocity at the basis of every aspect of human life. This year, the focus is on the Pathway of Active Citizenship and Politics for Unity under the banner of #DareToCare which seems to be a suitable response to the theme of today’s celebration.

Care is the driving force that motivates young people who have initiated a call to action or involved themselves in advocacies over the years. We propose to encourage young people to engage themselves in active participation by daring them to care. It is a dare because to care means to go beyond one’s self. It calls for thinking of others and asking one’s self, “What can I do for them?” It is rooted in the recognition that each person is my brother or sister, thereby leading to the pursuit of the common good. A sense of care can go a long way and can make the world a better place to live in starting with the piece of the world where we are at. We have seen this in young people who recently called for climate action and for an end to racial injustice.

We call on the youth of the world to start looking at their surroundings and ask themselves, “What are the things that we should care about? How can we act on them?” Young people can also look at the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and examine at what aspect/s they would want to commit themselves to and contribute to achieve it by 2030 starting with where they are. Eventually, the youth will find themselves working on different aspects in various parts of the world, in the local, national or global scale but leading towards the same goal, a better world for everyone.

Join us as we take a step forward towards a more united world by accepting this invitation: #DareToCare!  To find out more, go to http://www.unitedworldproject.org/en/.

New Humanity shared its vision on the topic of children’s rights in relations to the digital environment, in order to contribute to the General Comment that the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child is writing on this topic.

Shared Responsibility. As expressed by prof. Juan Garcia Gutierrez, a New Humanity expert in this area, the NGO of the Focolare Movement believes that the protection and promotion of children’s rights with respect to the digital space should be a shared responsibility among families, educators and public and legislative institutions, and it should follow a human right-based approach.

Priorities. Here are the top priority issues for New Humanity:

•    Considering the right of access to the Internet, including its neutrality, as a right of its own, is particularly valuable to guarantee other rights to children and young people, such as the right to education or freedom of expression;

•    Reflect on the scope of children’s right to play and to free time (as recognized by Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child), and its translation into the digital world;

•    Promote a permanent education in the technological field (digital or media literacy, literacy with respect to codes, etc.), as a digital competence that covers in a unified way the various levels of use and meaning.

«This book tells us that the way kids look at hunger and think of it is not way adults do. They see economic goods from a perspective of relationships much more than we do. They are more sensitive to inequality, they give little importance to money, they are generous».
(from Luigino Bruni’s preface)

Collaboration between FAO and New Humanity. This activity book published by New Humanity in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) starts from the observation that the world needs us, our ideas, our promises, our actions.

Common Goal. The book highlights the actions of so many great young people who are committed globally to this common goal: transforming the world into a more just place, without people suffering from hunger and poverty.

International Display. The text you find there has a mainly educational and formative purpose. Through the format of an International Meeting, many children from all 5 continents share true stories, personal and concrete experiences that show their choices and actions, the good habits they carry out in their daily lives and the promise of a firm commitment for the future.

Like a rainbow, made up of different colors, reaches the same endpoint, the book identifies 8 paths to follow in order to reach a #ZeroHunger world.

4 Pathways. This first volume presents 4 pathways in depth; each one deals with an issue linked to hunger and highlights some aspects where every human being could improve.

The book can be read alone or in a group and is suitable for moments of reflection and sharing either at school or in the family or with groups of friends. Each chapter contains an activity or a game with the purpose of stimulating reflection.

Suradnja FAO i New Humanity.

Poput duge, sastavljena od različitih boja, doseže istu točku, knjiga identificira osam stazica kojima treba ići do ostvarenja svijeta #Nula gladi.

Ugodno čitanje i sve najbolje!

“Right to Education and New Technologies: a Necessary Dialogue”

Prof. Juan Garcia Gutierrez of National University of Distance Education (UNED) offered his remarks on behalf of New Humanity at the panel discussion organized by OIDEL NGO and the Smart Internet Users project.

Download the Speech (Spanish)

“Where danger grows, safety also grows”. During his speech, prof. Garcia quoted the German poet Hörlderlin, to underline how it is possible to adopt an approach that applies the “spirit of fraternity” contained in the first article of the Universal Declaration. With such approach, a potential risk presented by the introduction of new technologies in the Education field can become a new opportunity to fully enjoy all human rights, including the right to education.

The twofold approach proposed by prof. Garcia foresees, on the one hand, the need to base scientific and technological development on human rights and, on the other, the need for technologies to be at the service of, and promote human values, the “spirit of fraternity” and human solidarity. Internet and digital technologies do not per se constitute a human right, but they are an indispensable means to fulfil other human rights, including the right to education.

A good practice presented in this regard concerns the “Spanish life” project, organized by UNED and the University of Porto-Novo in Benin. It is an innovative virtual learning tool, developed in an educational context at a distance (and therefore based on internet and digital technologies), oriented to the promotion of human values, such as the civic engagement of students, through intercultural dialogue and development of global citizenship.

Knowledge and control. “Mankind has started a new phase of its history – concluded Prof. Garcia – with a growing and rapid development of science and technology, which offer utopian and dystopian possibilities at the same time. In order to fully benefit from them, the essential purpose of education and learning in our century should focus on the knowledge and control of opportunities and risks.”

The event was moderated by dr. Pablo Nuño, First Secretary at Permanent Representation of Spain before the Office of UN in Geneva. Dr. Charo Sébada, Director of Communication for Smart Internet Users and Dr. Renato Opertti of the UNESCO International Education Office also intervened.
